Virtual Kurinuki Treasure Box Making

I

this class is hosted by Sonoma Ceramics Please register for this class on their website

n this online, live workshop using Zoom video conferencing, Melissa will demonstrate how she makes small boxes using a straight forward technique called Kurinuki. Kurinuki means to hollow out. It is a Japanese subtractive method of making pots by starting with a solid shape and carving the pot out of it.

Melissa will demonstrate how she carves boxes from a solid shape of clay. She will focus on feet, handles, followed by surface treatment and glaze decoration on bisqued pots. A pdf file with Melissa’s tool list and glaze recipes will be included in this workshop.

With time remaining after the demo,  there will be oppertunity for in-depth, live Q&A. All workshops will be hosted by the Sonoma Ceramics staff; participants will be encouraged to ask questions using the chat forum in Zoom, and the staff will communicate these questions to Melissa during her demo.

Students will receive the Zoom recording of the workshop to watch at their convenience for two weeks after the workshop (this will be sent to you 24 hours after the workshop). Many participants choose to observe the virtual workshop and work later, but you may also work alongside Melissa during the demo. If you cannot attend the whole workshop, you may drop in and out as you choose- remember, you’ll have the video to watch for 2 weeks after the workshop is over.

Participants must pre-register for the workshop to get the Zoom link & tool list. Once you register, the links will be in your confirmation email.  Click here to register
